A portrait was in order for one of our most valued delicacies on the west coast. Currently it is being impacted by the effects of climate change.

This illustrates the bees that pollinate and work the Vanilla Orchid. Most vanilla is manually pollinated by humans…but there is a specialized bee, the Melipona that is natures choice for the job. The other bees pictured are the Euglossini that scrape the fragrance off the petals for their own purposes of attracting mates.

After a visit to the Monterey Bay Aquarium I had a desire to revisit some of the creatures I remembered from growing up in Malibu.

We planted a tree for each of our children when they were born and at their first decade. This is one of those trees in full glory.

While working at our restaurant in San Francisco, fresh fish would be delivered regularly. Often I would be fascinated by the iridescence, patterns and color varieties.
Upon returning from my first trip to Ireland I had to chronicle the enchantment I experienced. I went back to see if it still held that timelessness and magic …..it did. I look forward to returning to explore further its wonders. The horse image that lies over the piece is from a rubbing off a ruin of a church near Dun Aengus on Inishmore. It represents the mystery and transitions that have permeated this soulful place.

At the heart of being a artist is observation. These examples are a sampling of initial and spontaneous reactions to the subject at hand.
This is where I work out artistically. The human figure being of the most challenging subjects. Capturing the figure from life in short increments of time is ongoing education.
For many years I helped Hog Island Oyster company create a more comprehensive brand. I enjoy solving the puzzles in creating a visible desirable brand. I am available for consultation as well.
While my main focus is creating art, this is another avenue for my creativity. Sourced from my own garden or other local farms…my goal is to be seasonal and as organic as possible. I can design floral arrangements for a small gathering up to a wedding.
